Deal With Debt

Whether you want to or not you should start dealing with your debt as soon as possible.  Not taking the time to do this can eventually cause you a lot of
financial problems.

It doesn't matter if you have a little debt or a lot of
debt, your top financial priority at this time should be
to start managing your debt.

How To Deal With Debt

The best way to deal with your debt is create a debt
management system.

Here's how debt management works.

 1) You simply create a debt management plan

(a simple excel worksheet will do)  Click here for
     a sample worksheet

Place the following on your worksheet:

  • All your debts

  • How much you owe

  • Monthly payments

  • Due dates

 2) Get a debt reduction calculator to see how long its going to take you to pay off each debt.

Click here to use the getting out of debt calculator.

 3) Get ready to deal with each creditor   Click here if you want to learn how to deal with your creditors.

     Before calling your creditors

  • Gather all your debts

  • Get telephone number for each creditor

  • Call each creditor requesting some relief from the debt.

Some relief you can ask for includes:

  •     Lower interest rate

  •     Lower monthly payments

  •     Debt settlement (offer to pay the debt in full at a reduced amount)

But be careful with accepting any arrangement or asking for a debt settle. You don't want to get              yourself in more financial trouble than what you are already in.  So verify any arrangements                  before you agree to it. Make sure that there will be no added penalties, interest, charges, new                fees or terms added.

 5) Document each conversation you have with creditors

 6)  Ask creditors to put all arrangement in writing and send it to you.

 7)  Avoid making more debt

 8)  Stop using your credit cards

 9) If you can, continue to make all your monthly payments on time

10) Start paying down your debt

  •  Find extra money to help you pay down your debt.

11)  If you are getting behind in your debt and you don't want to deal with your creditors yourself
consider talking with a consumers credit counseling agency.  You can find one at the hud.gov
website.  In their search box, just type in consumers credit counseling.  Read this to learn more
       about consumers credit counseling.

12)  Keep up your debt management plan until all your debt is paid in full.  And if you have to add any
new debt make sure you add it to your debt management worksheet.

Well those are the steps to take to start dealing with your debt.  By doing those above things you can start to clearly see your way of becoming debt free.  You will begin to feel better about  your financial
situation because you are taking control of your debt.
