Financial Record Keeping

You Should Have  a Financial Record Keeping System In Place

There are a lot of talk going around nowadays about keeping track of your personal financial papers. I
know that is something everyone should do. But I didn't realize how many sites have been created
just to cover this subject.

Today I did a google search for the term financial
record keeping and I discovered a lot of sites with
information on  the subject.

Well I didn't want to just give you the same
information that other sites are giving.  So I decided
what you needed was something different to think
about while trying to setup a record keeping system.

Problems With Financial Record Keeping and
the Emotional Side of Getting Your Financial
Records In Order

Well, here's the thing.  A good financial record
keeping system can help you organize your financial
life the way it should be organized.  And you know
you want your personal finances in order. That is
why people hire professional organizer to do this task for them.

However, the biggest problem occurs when you began to think about all the work it will take to get your financial records in order. You feel it will take so much time simply because you had no form of organization skills.  Everything you have is disorganized including your financial papers.  You know you have them but locating them is a problem.

Many times this can cause stress which can leave to other problems in your life including health problems.

Keep It Simple

In order for most people to do a task it has to be simple.  If its simple you will enjoy doing it and you will most likely keep it up.  So you must have a simple financial record keeping system in place in order or else you will fail at trying to do it.

How to Simplify Your Financial Record Keeping

The best way to simplify your financial record keeping is to just start from scratch.  I mean if you don't know where your financial papers are but you know they are somewhere in your house, just leave them along until you need them and then proceed to look for them.  It can take a lot of time and can get  you make you frustrated if you have to find and then organize your old papers.

Start Now Keeping Up With Your Present Financial Papers

  • Go to store and buy several large 3 ring binder

If you don't want to spend money on binders you just might have some around the house or ask                    family and friends if they have some large 3 ring binders that they no longer use.

  • Buy some indexes with pockets

  • Place the indexes with pockets in the 3 ring binder

Label each index with the kind of paper you will place in them  For example, if you have a job you might want to put all your pay stub from that job in one of the indexes.  So you will name that index Pay Stubs.  So do that with all of your financial papers from now on.

Make sure you place the financial paper you receive in the binder as soon as you get them so you stay organize and it want get you all stressed out the next time you need to put your hand on a certain document.

Now if you so happen to discover some of your important old financial papers and you want to add them to your indexes go ahead, just take your time. File a few papers every now and then.

I have been using the above technique for years and it has worked for me.

Learn To Treat Your Personal Financial Affairs Like a Small Business

Another tip I will give you and that is you should treat your personal financial life the same way you would treat your business affairs.

If you owned a business you would make it your business to make sure you had some form of record keeping system in place so that your business can run smoothly.  Your business accounting will help you to know how you are doing financially.  It tells you if you are profiting from the business or not.

So go ahead and let this be the first day of organizing your financial papers in a very simple way.
