How To Correct Your Credit Report

There's only one way to correct your credit report and that is to challenge or dispute inaccurate
information you find on the report. 

Here are the steps to doing it.

Step 1:  You must get a copy of all three of your credit reports.

Step 2:  Some credit bureaus will send you 
dispute form with your credit report.


Step 3:  Examine all three credit reports.

Step 4: Use either the dispute form that was 
sent with the credit report or write your own 
dispute letter.


Step 5: Open the notebook you used when you 
were reading your credit report. 

If you are going to use the credit dispute form write down everything you found to be incorrect on it. Click here for a sample dispute letter you can use.


Step 6:  Fill out a dispute form or write a dispute letterfor each credit report. 

Copy the letter in your own handwriting.

Step 7:  Mail to dispute forms or letters to credit bureaus

Once you mail the form or letter, the credit bureaus will respond within 30 days after they receive it.
You will then receive updated copies of your credit reports.
