My Personal Story
When my husband and I got married we had very good jobs with great incomes. One year after we got married we had our first child. The second year of our marriage we purchased our first house. We were so proud of ourselves. Everything seemed to be going good so we thought. We paid our bills every month. Then we began to add more debt you know the usually debt such as credit card debt.
Going From Two Incomes to One Income
After working for so many years for the same company my husband became unemployed and that's when our financial problems started.
As I stated earlier we had a child, mortgage, two car notes and credit cards. We did alright for a while because my husband received money when he left his job. But that money didn't last long. We didn't use it properly. Not considering once that we should learn to manage our money a little better we continued on with our life as it were.
Eventually all of our bills became delinquent. We could not afford to pay them anymore. Our credit became so negative. The very good credit score that my husband had when I married him was now so low. Mind weren't too much better either.
The only thing my husband thought to do was to file for chapter 13 bankruptcy. My husband eventually started a business. Our household income increased a lot. The income from the business helped us out but it wasn't long before we began to have more financial issues mostly due to us not managing our money right. We made money and spend it. We would put money into a savings for a while and then take it out as soon as we wanted to purchase something.
That cycle of living continue with us even when we moved to Alabama, moved back to Georgia and then moved to North Carolina.
Moving To North Carolina
We moved from Georgia to North Carolina in 2003. We both found jobs the first week of moving there. We were doing so good for a while. We paid everything on time including a very expensive apartment we had rented. For two years our financial life was good so we thought again.
After one year of living in that apartment we leased a very nice two story house in a very nice neighborhood.
